Frequently asked questions
Straight answers on kundli, Lahiri sidereal charts, timing tools, and matching — so you know what Vedic Kundli calculates and what it does not claim.
Getting started
What is Vedic Kundli?
Vedic Kundli is a free Vedic astrology (Jyotisha) web app for sidereal birth charts. It calculates Lahiri kundlis, Vimshottari dashas, panchang, transits, Ashtakoot matching, divisional vargas, and focused calculators — with no login or subscription.
What birth details do I need for a Vedic kundli?
You need the person’s name (optional), date and local time of birth, and place of birth. Vedic Kundli fills latitude, longitude, and timezone when you pick a city from the place suggestions. Accurate local time matters most for Lagna (ascendant) and house cusps; the Moon sign and nakshatra are more stable if the time is only approximate.
Can I generate a chart if the birth time is unknown?
You can still enter a working time (for example sunrise or noon) to see Moon sign, nakshatra, and many planetary longitudes. Lagna, house-based yogas, and Manglik-from-Lagna will be unreliable until the time is confirmed. Use that chart as orientation, not as a final house reading.
Is Vedic Kundli free to use? Do I need an account?
Yes. Charts and calculators run in the browser session from the details you submit. There is no login, no subscription wall, and no shareable chart URL. Recast the chart anytime with the same or updated birth data.
Charts and methods
Which ayanamsa does Vedic Kundli use — Lahiri or tropical?
Vedic Kundli uses the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. That is the standard used by most Indian astrologers and panchangs. It is not tropical Western astrology; signs are offset by the ayanamsa (shown on your chart as Lahiri degrees).
Does Vedic Kundli show North Indian and South Indian charts?
Yes. A full birth chart includes North Indian and South Indian D1 (rashi) drawings plus Navamsa (D9), graha dignity, nakshatra, and house placement. Divisional (varga) charts through D60 are available in the systems view after you generate a kundli.
What dasha system does Vedic Kundli use?
The birth chart includes Vimshottari dasha trees (maha, antar, and deeper levels where calculated), plus related timing such as Yogini. Annual Varshaphal uses Mudda (Tajika) year lords for a chosen year. Dashas are timing maps — they show periods of emphasis, not a script of fate.
Does Vedic Kundli support KP (Krishnamurti Paddhati)?
Yes. After you cast a chart, the systems area includes KP sign, star, and sub lords using Vimshottari subs, with cuspal (Sripati) detail. KP is a timing overlay on the same Lahiri sidereal positions; it does not replace the D1 reading.
Panchang, muhurta, and transits
What is a Hindu panchang?
Panchang means “five limbs”: tithi, vara (weekday), nakshatra, yoga, and karana. Vedic Kundli’s month panchang also lists sunrise, moonrise, and classical daytime windows such as Rahu Kalam and Abhijit for the city you choose. Values change with location, so always set the correct place.
How does the muhurta finder choose an auspicious day?
You pick a purpose and a date range. Vedic Kundli ranks days using panchanga factors and classical daytime windows (including Rahu Kalam and Abhijit). It is a screening tool for candidates — a traditional muhurta also considers the natal chart, which you can review separately.
How are festival dates calculated?
The festival calendar derives major vratas and observances from amanta lunar month, paksha, and tithi for the selected month and place. Regional custom (sunrise vs moonrise rules, smarta vs vaishnava) can shift a date by a day; treat the list as a Jyotisha calendar, then confirm local temple practice.
What is the transit (gochar) calendar?
Gochar is the current motion of planets relative to your natal Moon and Lagna. The transit calendar shows a month of sign ingresses, house context, and day detail so you can see when a graha changes sign or aspect without generating a new natal chart each time.
What is Varshaphal (annual chart)?
Varshaphal is the Tajika annual chart for a solar year from your birth. Vedic Kundli gives a Mudda overview — year lord, themes, and Sade Sati context — for the year you select. Use it with the natal Vimshottari dasha, not instead of it.
What is Choghadiya and planetary hora?
Choghadiya divides daytime and night into eight slots each from local sunrise and sunset — Udveg, Chal, Labh, Amrit, Kaal, Shubh, Rog — with a simple good-or-avoid note. Planetary hora follows the classical day and night sequence from sunrise. Pick your city so sunrise times are correct.
What does the sky events calendar show?
Retrograde station dates for Mercury through Saturn, combustion ingress and egress when a graha nears the Sun (sidereal), and approximate solar and lunar eclipse dates from syzygy plus node proximity. Eclipses are educational approximations — confirm with an official almanac for ritual timing.
Can I add muhurta or sky dates to Google or Apple Calendar?
Yes. Use “Add to calendar” on muhurta results or the sky events page. Vedic Kundli downloads a standard .ics file with VEVENT entries — no account required. Times follow the place you selected; open the file in your calendar app to import.
Matching and doshas
How does kundli matching (Ashtakoot) work on Vedic Kundli?
Add a partner on the birth-chart form. Vedic Kundli scores the eight kootas (Ashtakoot) out of 36 from both Moon nakshatras, with Manglik status for both charts, a highlighted Nadi warning when that koota is zero, and an optional notes field saved only in your browser. Matching is one traditional filter — it does not replace conversation or a full chart comparison.
How do I check Manglik (Mangal) dosha?
Use the Manglik calculator or a full chart. Vedic Kundli checks Mars from Lagna, Moon, and Venus, which is how many North Indian matchmakers screen. Cancellation yogas and house strength still need a human reading; the tool reports the classical flags clearly.
What is Sade Sati and how is it calculated here?
Sade Sati is Saturn’s transit through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd signs from the natal Moon — typically about seven and a half years. The Sade Sati calculator and transit views use that Moon-based definition. Intensity varies with Saturn’s dignity, dasha, and house — the label alone is not a verdict.
Calculators, Prashna, and reading the results
Which Vedic calculators are included besides the full kundli?
Standalone tools cover Lagna and Moon, nakshatra, Atmakaraka, Manglik, Kaal Sarp, Pitra dosha, Sade Sati, Yogini dasha, gemstone, Rudraksha, Lal Kitab, Vastu, numerology, biorhythm, Prashna, and nakshatra baby-name syllables (namkaran). Use them when you need one answer without opening every varga chart.
How do nakshatra baby names (namkaran) work on Vedic Kundli?
Enter birth date, time, and place — or Moon nakshatra and pada if you already know them. Vedic Kundli lists the classical starting syllables (akshara) for that pada plus sample names in English and Devanagari where available. This is a cultural suggestion for naming inspiration, not a religious ruling.
Can I download my kundli as an image?
After you generate a chart, use “Download North chart” or “Download South chart” on the results toolbar. Vedic Kundli renders the SVG to a PNG on your device with name and birth details in a small footer — useful for WhatsApp or private sharing. There is no public chart URL.
Is Vedic Kundli available in Hindi?
Yes. Use the language toggle in the header to switch between English and Hindi for navigation, footers, form labels, and key CTAs. Classical chart terms may stay bilingual to avoid mistranslation; English remains the default.
Can I install Vedic Kundli on my phone like an app?
On supported browsers (Chrome on Android or desktop), an “Install app” link appears in the footer when install is available. Vedic Kundli ships as a lightweight PWA with shortcuts to panchang and Choghadiya. Charts and PHP pages always load fresh from the network — no stale kundli cache.
What is Prashna (horary) astrology on Vedic Kundli?
Prashna casts a chart for the moment and place you ask the question, not for birth. Enter the question, current time, and location. It is a classical method for a focused query; keep the question sincere and specific. Vedic Kundli also includes a Lal Kitab-style house view in the remedies tools.
Does Vedic Kundli predict the future or give personal consultations?
No. Vedic Kundli computes classical Jyotisha structures — positions, dashas, panchanga, and screening scores — so you can read them. It does not sell predictions as fate, and it is not a substitute for a qualified astrologer, counsellor, or medical advice.
Is my birth data stored or shared?
You submit details to calculate a chart in that request. There is no user account and no public share link. Language preference may be stored in a cookie; matching notes stay in this browser only. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
